Double GH reflective LCD

LCD Display monitor

Reflective display technologies show great promise in the development of displays with very low power consumption, furthermore the contrast and the resolution will be comparable with that of print on paper. Supported by MITI, we are currently developing a double layer guest-host (DGH) liquid crystal display, shown in Figure 1, to establish low power consumption, high reflectivity and high contrast ratio simultaneously.

The alignment configuration of the DGH liquid crystal display is shown in Figure 2.

Two orthogonally aligned guest-host cells absorb both directions of polarized light, and enables high contrast ratio without polarizers.

Parallax from the thickness of the separation wall between two layers was a problem of the DGH liquid crystal display. We introduced a polymer film as a separator of the two layers shown as Figure 3 to establish a parallax free structure.
